St James’ Anglican School is one of eight WA schools selected to participate in an ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education’ pilot program aimed at reducing teacher workloads in WA.
Co-funded by State and Federal Governments, the initiative will see AI used within selected schools to reduce lesson planning time, enabling teachers to spend more time in the classroom and less time doing administrative work.
The WA Department of Education will deliver the pilot in partnership with Catholic Education WA, the Association of Independent Schools of WA, and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. Using generative AI solutions for developing lesson plans and teaching resources that reference quality-assured source documents is aimed at reducing teacher workload, allowing teachers to focus more of their time on their interactions with students that enhance engagement and connections to the learning.
The AI solution aims to help teachers to differentiate lesson plans and teaching resources for the individual student context or classroom.
The generated AI content will be quality-assured to ensure lesson plans and teaching resources align with the mandatory curriculum.
“The introduction of AI in our educational framework is not just a technological advancement; it is a paradigm shift in how we approach teaching and learning. This initiative will enable our teachers to personalise learning experiences based on individual student needs, making education more relevant and impactful,” said St James’ Principal, Mr Adrian Pree.
“As we embark on this journey, we are excited to see how AI can enhance not just the efficiency of our educational processes, but also the richness of our students’ learning experiences. We are committed to leading the way in integrating innovative solutions that prioritise both teacher wellbeing and student success. This is just the beginning of a transformative journey in education,” Mr Pree added.
