ASC Data Storytelling for Educators Webinar – Term 4

To align with our Core Purpose of being a learning community where excellence is pursued, a Data Storytelling for Educators webinar will be held during Term 4 on Thursday 24 October.

This ASC live webinar will be presented by Dr Selena Fisk, a 2024 ACEL National Award recipient of the ACEL Hedley Beare Award for Education Writing in Educational Leadership. During this webinar, Dr Selena Fisk will share resources and learnings on the three core elements of using data in schools: data literacy, data visualisation, and data storytelling to improve student outcomes across the school.

This session is a follow-up to the ASC NAPLAN Masterclass ‘10 Ways to Use Your NAPLAN Data’ conducted by Dr Selena Fisk during Term 3. However, it is not compulsory to have attended the Term 3 webinar to register for this session.

The ASC webinar is open to school leaders, including Principals, Heads of Teaching and Learning and Heads of Inclusive Education/Learning Enrichment. This webinar is also open to relevant Heads of Learning Areas, including English and Mathematics.

Invitations have been sent to schools so interested staff can register via the Registration Link.  The one-hour webinar commences at 9:00 am (AWST) and 12:00 pm (AEST). Please note that there is no registration fee for ASC staff to attend this webinar.

Please get in touch with me if you have any questions regarding registration for this professional learning opportunity—registrations close Thursday, 17 October.

The Future of Education: Melbourne Metrics

The WA Melbourne Assessment Network meetings create the opportunity for WA school leaders and teachers involved in either a New Metrics Research Partnership or the Melbourne Assessment Community (MAC) to connect, share, and grow the valid assessment and recognition of complex competencies in their school communities.

This WA cross-sectoral network meets once a term and our ‘New Metrics in Action’ Term 3 meeting was held on Wednesday, 28 August. Thank you to John Wollaston Anglican Community School for hosting this terrific event for more than thirty people from a range of education sectors.

The meeting commenced with a ‘Spotlight session’ and mini-expo from John Wollaston, led by Rebecca Piccolo, Dean of Teaching and Learning, to showcase student learning design with teachers and students sharing their insights on projects developed across Learning Areas.

Celena Mecham, Head of Secondary (Teaching and Learning) from Swan Valley Anglican Community School, presented on ‘The Swan Valley Learner Profile and New Metrics in Action for 2024’. Robert Dodds, Coordinator of Innovation and Learning Technology from Methodist Ladies’ College, also shared the College’s New Metrics work to date.

In addition, we have established a WA Teams page for additional sharing and collaboration amongst the network. People remained well after the close of the meeting to share and discuss ideas, a clear sign that the collaboration and connection amongst this network is strong!

Be sure to save the date for our Term 4 WA Melbourne Assessment Network meeting on Wednesday, 23 October, which will be held from 2:00 pm at Methodist Ladies’ College. Invitations will be sent to the Project Leads in the WA Melbourne Assessment Network schools shortly.

Best wishes for a safe and relaxing holiday.

Director of Teaching and Learning
