This term, Trinity Anglican College welcomed its new College Chaplain, The Reverend Sophie Watkins.
Sophie joined the College after serving as Vicar of the Anglican Parish of the Parks (Albert Park, Victoria), a position she held since 2017. With over 25 years of ministry experience across several parishes, primarily in Victoria, Sophie brings a wealth of knowledge and pastoral care to the College community.
Bishop Clarence officially licensed Sophie as the new College Chaplain at a special Leaders’ Assembly, marking the beginning of her journey at Trinity.
Sophie is eager to support students and staff in various areas of school life, from classrooms to sporting fields, and wherever her presence is needed. She describes her role as one with an ‘open-door policy’ – whether in her physical office or as she moves around campus.
“If you see me around and want to chat, I am all ears,” Sophie says.
Sophie emphasises four key values in her approach to chaplaincy: fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, providing creative opportunities for reflection and growth, encouraging inquiry and openness, and nurturing authentic, respectful relationships.
Known for her warm and approachable nature, Sophie also has a ‘cheeky sense of humour’ and isn’t afraid to share a good (or bad) pun! Her first training was in fine arts, the threads of which are woven through her ministry.
Trinity is excited to have Sophie on board and looks forward to the positive impact she will make within the school community.
